OrchestrationContest '09 Entry

Well, I'm entering the Newgrounds Orchestration Contest.

I had to use a fixed melody (in this piece, the piano), and orchestrate the fuck out of it.

I think I did so with excellence, awesomeness, and a little side serving of fantasticness.

:D

Choo Choo! Go freedom train, go!!!

-Sam

PS: This was inspired by the work of Harry Gregson-Williams, a combo of influences from Kingdom of Heaven, and Metal Gear Solid.

nice

it sounds epic but i think i herad this song somewhere...

sshafty1 responds:

Well, if you're talking about the /melody/, it's because in the orchestration contest this was made for, all songs had to have the same melody, and it was a contest of who could best orchestrate it.

If you're talking about the song itself, then maybe someone used this without giving me credit. There's actually a fake last.fm channel of someone who claims to be me with my music on it.

nice

good job

Thanks, man!

Good

I don't agree with "ImperfectDisciple" the base of the song was good as were the instruments used, even the guitar sounded in place in a classical catagory. My only problem was that it was a bit repetive and I feel that you could of done more if you tried a little harder. Great song, loved it, saved it.

Decent.

I honestly think that it's ruined in the 3/4 style, considering the instrument choice. A 4/4 style with altered rhythm and slower tempo could be gold for example. This, well, it just sounds like there's awesomeness in there fosho. Great instrument choice, it is lovely. The theme, however, does not have a convincing story. Very bland. Sorry :\

sshafty1 responds:

Well, upon creating this piece, I had no clue that we had the option to change the rhythm of the melody - the guy running the contest only added that this was an option a good while after I had composed this (which was the day after the contest was proposed in the first place).

Maybe monday I'll make a different entry. I work fast.
