A love song is essential to a songwriter. Every songwriter should be able to write a good one every once in a while. It is the mantra of every commercial songwriter to write an uptempo love song in 4/4. I know these rules well, because I've done commercial writing in the past, but you could say that all the uptempo love songs in 4/4 that you write will not be authentic.
When I wrote this song, I didn't set out to do anything, but I think I accomplished a lot. For one, it's an honest, authentic love song. The second thing it accomplishes is it doesn't sacrifice energy or intensity to portray the vulnerability one will feel when he is in love.
I think this song directly speaks to how much a guy can feel he is strung around by a girl before they actually commit to each other. Women can be quite charming and manipulative, and many confuse men when entering a relationship of any kind, giving men an uncertainty when they try to figure out whether it'd be worth it to stick around or if it would be cut your losses and walk out.
It sucks to stick your fit in the door of a relationship, only to find out that nobody wants you in the room and quickly leave the room thereafter. It's also sucks when you realize you don't even want what's in the room in the first place, but now I'm rambling.
This song is in the same synth-pop indie boat as Wolf Parade, so if you like this then you might like them.
