I usually don't like it that dark, but you can build on it.
The beat is not complete yet.
It's not written in stone, but many people use a kick, open and closed hihats, a pluck and effects in the beginning already.
Then they build up the whole thing by introducing a clap, up to 3 basses and then the pad and the melody of course.

I know that's the 'normal' way of making a beat, but my intention with this song is to make it very dark. Introducing hihats and claps wouldn't improve on that very much ;-) Like you said, it's not written in stone.
