I like jazz. Can you tell?

Its differnt but that good kinda differnt. That differnt that makes you think about that one time in Russia with the 70ft Narwhal and how you somehow survived a homeless shelter stampede. But I like it its got that nice touch too it keep up the good work

SolusLunes responds:

What. I am confused.

Cool as shit

Things I would recommend:

Turn down the high hats a bit.
Mix the saxophone a bit better. It sounds like several of them are playing at the same time, and if that's the case, it should be louder, or at least louder than that high hat that's going crazy. If it's just one sax, then definitely lower the reverb on the sax.
More caution with the piano melody. It sounds like it goes off-scale a few times in not-so-good ways. Other than that, the piano melody was damn good.

Other than the above-mentioned facts, this song is pretty good. Which is why I'm giving it a 9. The articulations of the sax were pretty sexy. The drums were pretty good, with the exception of that high hat. This song has plenty of energy. All in all, I like it very much.

SolusLunes responds:

It's two saxes, yes, and I did want the instruments to have a more "organic" feel, so they go a little off-scale a few times. :D

But what can you do? :D

I can feel the jazz...

Unlike some people, I like to base reviews on the quality and meaning of the music. When I was young, I believed jazz was any music where the musician improvised music on the spot (definitely saw that aspect in bebop). But lets not argue, as the Duke said, "It's all music." I'm no big fan of jazz, but I have a strong appreciation for all music.

I loved the piano solo and the title fit the feeling and mood of the song perfectly. The instruments that stumbled every once in a while (mainly sax and a few on piano) was quiet interesting and not too much to my liking, but it could be just musical taste. Nonetheless, the piano and sax had great harmony and it really felt like a live improvisation performance.

10/10 to help fix that 3 =/

SolusLunes responds:

I love that quote by the Duke.

I did try and work in a few stumbles so it seemed more live, and thank you for the positive feedback on it! :D

I'm sick of people thinking its jazz just because there is a sax. this is not jazz its just embarrasing. next time try to make it less hammy and get a cooler bassline.

SolusLunes responds:

I'm sick of people who decide they want to declare what a genre is and is not. Go somewhere else where people might care about what you think.

Ohhhhh yes.

Compositionally I think this is top notch. The sax is nicely articulated and the piano feel and solo is great, if a little too straight but it's easy enough to sequence some intentional timing and velocity "errors" ;)

Drum arrangement is quite nice but that hi-hat sounds like modulated whitenoise, the open hat is especially painful. All the other cymbals seem a little bit too toppy too. I also felt that some of the reverb on the saxophone was unnecessary but at the same time it wasn't really detrimental to the experience like the god-awful hi-hat was.

Again, this is just 100% superb compositionally but the hi-hats and cymbals are a pain :(

SolusLunes responds:

Man, why do my hats suck so much :(

I'll really have to fix it.
