Mike Hart on 6 string Bass, Chris Hart on drums, Production by FUNKbrs

Rated 3.5 / 5 stars

Needs a lighter melody.

It was interesting to hear a bass do a melody and the drums didn't over power the bass. It could've used a higher sounding melody though, or at least a quiet accompaniment piano or guitar. The blues scale was a bit repetitive as well.

i agree with everything jazzerevolution said. but some goddamn feeling into the piece. Just cuz it's slow doesn't mean it has to put you to sleep.

First of all, I believe the distinguishing trait of "Cantalope Island" is the infectious piano groove, which you did not include. That's okay, but it's advisable that you replace it with something equally as infectious for the intro. Instead you just had a dumb bass guitar riff for a million choruses, which you rarely strayed away from - And when you did place something slightly different, it showed a lack of harmonic understanding and an extremely small improvisational vocabulary. Consequently, there was no significant movement in the music. BOOORING!!! You know the blues scale and a couple of funk licks. Big deal!

FUNKbrs responds:

Now, let me say, I"m the drummer, not the bass player.

Secondly, this was recorded live, on live-only HARDWARE, not software, so I COULDN'T back track and "add" a piano piece.

So my brother sucks at bass. Boohoo. Like I'm the only guy on the planet with an untalented brother. Do go on with your insight there, Sherlock.

Would you rather I'd submitted yet ANOTHER vga remix? No? THEN SHUT YOUR HOLE.

(ps, yes, you're totally right.)

It sounds aight man, just make sure people know you didn't write this song, Herbie Hancock did.

FUNKbrs responds:

Hey, covering Herbie is hard. I only wish I knew a sax player....
