I originally came back on to newgrounds last week in order for some ideas of what kind of songs I should incorperate to the game I am working on (inspired by castle crashers, and also for xBox 360 only), when I came across this song on Rig's page. I thought this song would be awesome for an empty city w/ a park. Then I read the information on it, noticed there was just Bad Man's submission, and thought "I wonder if I could make anything good enough to go with this song". Turns out the answer is a devastating 'sorta'.

This was really hard to do, because first off, the song was not made specificly with an idea of what the guitar would specificly sound like, so I basically started playin notes over it, not many, just a few here and there. Slowly the song was covered in notes, and I had to remove uite a few (most of the original) and then made 2 different guitars. Next I mixed the guitars, and then near the end I cut the volume of them down significanly, and then added a volume envelope to allow the trumpets to be louder at points.

Anyway, I hope Rig and Soro like it. It probably wasnt what they were expecting, but oh well I guess, sorry.

really liked the drums, perfect at the beginning;
nice capture of the jazz, I couldn't help but notice the guitar at the beginning didn't sound realistic enough and cut-off without much reverb, if any at all.

I like the brass and the trumpet(is it?) was amazing, piano part was ok and overall I think this a piece you should be proud of^^

Well first off what you've tried to create is very hard, and yet you have definitely accomplished a decent piece of music everything is in a correct place and distinctly there, you have chosen to use loops and that sets you in a decent mood after you've heard it once, also the saxophone you've incorporated definitely reminds me of a sweet Jazzy club which is great with the slow exciting pace of the piano, Also the theme of the city is awesome aswell.

All in All.

I was Incredibly impressed i hope to hear more of your Submissions!

Good Luck!

Nice try ;P

Well, the enthusiasm is there!

First MIDI guitar submission I've heard for this, haha. The kind of guitar sound I had in mind was a warm, bluesy, distorted sound, the kind you'd hear at a dinner jazz club. Your additions, I find, simply do not fit the mood I envisioned.

You introduced a chord progression near the solo section that didn't fit the bassline or piano chords and overwhemed everything else - I could barely hear the rest of the song. Remember when you mentioned that "less is more?" Less would definitely be more in this situation. Silence is a note, too - give the other instruments room to breathe. Pretend that the guitar is a breathing instrument, too - put silence in every once in a while to let it catch its breath. :D

Keep at it, though, the potential is there!

MusicIsBliss responds:

thanks for the advice, i really didnt know what to do at that point, so i tried going more epic to go into the solo, guess it didnt work
