Once again, I'm trying something I've never done before. I'm not a huge fan of gabber, but I was playing around with 3xosc and some kick samples (Plus around 9000 random effects) and by chance created this gabber kick. I have no idea how I ended up making it... (It was exported several times to accommodate for additional effects/samples) but I think it turned out pretty damn good. Alls I know for sure is that it is made from a few Vengeance Clubby/Sub kicks and a 3xosc with an envelope, lots of distortion, lots of compressors, and a phaser or three. Hope you all like it.

Rate me, review me, love me, hate me... Just listen to it already!

PS: I'm thinking about making a sample pack with some of the drums I've created. Not that any of them are that incredible, but I think a few like this one turned out pretty damn good.

Kewl.

It's over 9000!

..

Random effects.
But cool track! The pulse and whatnot seemed to flow perfectly the whole time through.

Not bad...

I must say, not bad at all. Let me lay out some criticism, but this is just for your own improvement: You don't have to take it if you don't want to.

First off, the EQing. That's the big problem here. The kick sounds great, but it lacks in punch in the mid-frequency regions. More distortion can help here, or layer with a mid-heavy clap for help.

The synths, though, felt very thin. That's 3xOsc's classic problem: It doesn't sound full or rich like the analog synths it was designed after. Instead, it sounds damn thin, and the odd EQing/Filtering you used didn't help at all.

Next criticism is the structure. It isn't really friendly to DJs like the genre is supposed to be, but that's ok, since this was more of an experimentation song.

Personally, I like the tempo faster, but to each his own.

The positives were that the kick sounds cool... The patterns you used were fine, and you have some good ideas going. Just listen to more hardcore. Try to flesh the ideas out more fully. Download some nice freeware VSTs and mess with patches... fuck around with synth programming... experiment! It will turn out well in the end!

Overall... 8/10, 5/5

Fuiste responds:

I gotta say, thanks so much for not hesitating with the criticism. This is why I'm on Newgrounds; to get better at my craft, and I'd much rather be told that I suck and how to get better than to be praised emptily. But anyways...

The structure is far from final. This is merely a rough mix of a song that came out of me inventing a cool kick and seeing what it would sound like in a finished product. If I make a final version of this, it will certainly be more standard in structure.

I also completely agree with your statement about the thin lead synth. It's actually a z3ta+, and not a 3xosc, but as I said in the previous review, I removed a huge chunk of low and mid frequency for the sake of sound clarity. I then compressed it to make it sound more saturated and energetic. I guess this was a bit of a misstep.

AS to the kick, I think if I fill out the mix in other ways, it can probably remain more or less unchanged, at least that's what I think.

Thanks for the awesome review, man! Much appreciated!

Peace.

Nice kick

The synths were lacking gabberness, as far as how you chose to use them. The EQ on the main saw synth is...erm, taking away from the synth.

But the kick is nice. Very Nu Style. Keep up the good work! 7/10 for good sounds but poor usage.

4/5:
4.15 / 5.00 (- 0.020)

Fuiste responds:

Yeah, it's more a rotterdam track than a straight up gabber, and I don't listen to a whole lot of either, so that might explain the melodic-ness and my use of synths. And yeah, the main z3ta+ saw lead is a bit lacking, as I had to EQ a lot of the low frequencies out to make the song less muddy sounding and bring the mix up. I figured giving it some super compressed saturated feeling would sound good. I guess I was a bit off the mark though...

Oh well. I made it as an experiment, and it was fun. Thanks for the review!

Peace.

asdf

Not quite my cup of tea, but still entertaining to listen to.

Fuiste responds:

Eh, it was fun to write. I'll probably be going back to breakbeat/house in the future tho. Hardcore is cool 'till you realize it's the same beat forever.

Peace.

Sick

I don't know where to start. Great intensity, great energy, great use of 3xosc. I haven't reached that level of use with it, but I'm getting there. Nice work!

Fuiste responds:

Thanks, I'm glad you liked it. 3xosc is the single best reason to use FL Studio. I love how much I'm able to achieve with it.

Peace.
