"Hole in the Ceiling" is a story told primarily through the eyes of a young boy who is imprisoned in a windowless room by his overbearing mother. His only escape is a small hole in the ceiling of this room that allows him to see small remnants of the outside world around him.
The track, "Space," takes place soon after the boy discovers the hole. He dreams of being in the shoes of his favorite, comic-book character, "Space-Captain Lou Saviour," and what life without walls may be like.
Musically, the song is meant to be simplistic, mostly long, droning effects that serve as a single bass note that plays continuously throughout. Lots of reverb was used to better symbolize the vastness of space from the boy's point of view.
