i made the initial riff one day while i was monkeying around with a very echoey pad, and left it alone. later i came back and engineered the bass synthesizer which is (what i feel) the greatest achievement of this song. the song is supposed to feel plodding and teetering; the tonal center was intended to be a diminished chord. a ostinato of upper neighbors and lower neighbors makes Bb either a diatonic tone or a suspension of sorts while the vibraphone-sounding pad hacks in some kind of structure. the "breakthrough" of the song, in retrospect, doesn't really have the power i wanted it to have, but that is because the pad isn't very percussive. i think i put the last run of the arpeggiation into the sequencer an eighth or sixteenth off, but i'm completely okay with that in post.

as an aside, i really hate that i can't use more than one classification for these songs; this is definitely not industrial as i see it, but that's the closest i can get to where this song actually is.
