Easy Listening - Classical

Author Comments

This is my submission for January's Monthly Audio Contest (MAC). The theme is a Valentine's day theme and the goal was to write a song embodying the thoughts, feelings, and emotions of love. When I thought about the song I wanted to write, I really came up with a story that I wanted to portray about love in general. This sort of relates back to my Flight of Freedom MAC08 where I did the same thing. Anyhow, here's what I came up with and based my composition around.

Fair warning: This is a very lame story and description, but it encompasses exactly what I wanted to portray through the music.

Sitting in class you vaguely hear the professor lecturing about something. You're more focused in on the girl sitting in the seat a couple rows in front of you. Staring at her, you twirl your pencil in your hand.

All of sudden the girl looks back and your eyes catch hers. Your heart races and you immediately look down at your blank sheet of paper, frantically wondering if she noticed you were staring.

Over the course of the next couple of weeks, you work up the courage to ask her out. After class one day, you catch her walking out of the class. Walking next to her, you begin to talk about class, "Man, the professor is always so boring..." (Crap that sounded retarded).

But she replies and you start talking. She says she has to leave to catch the bus and you catch her hand, speeding your words up as you speak. Finally, you ask her on a date and await a response...

She says yes! And your heart races and you smile at her as she rushes to catch the bus.

You and your girlfriend ride out the rollercoaster that is a relationship and end up going through some rough patches. Things aren't going so well, but you keep trying. Eventually, you come through and everything between the two of you is better; like the first day when you asked her out.

Watching her silently asleep, you begin to drift off as you feel her warmth.

Lame I know... Anyways, enjoy! I've spent a long time on this one and put a lot of effort into it.

Please vote fairly, thanks in advance for any comments!

Ha nice :)

This is a really nice creation.

The piano phrase is really catchy and the overall melody is just an incompareable happy one :).
The stops are cleverly placed although the first stop may be a bit too long (for me that is^^; I'd have expected the entry just a beat earlier so it somewhat broke the flow if you know what I mean^^).
And finally the dynamics along with the variety of instruments you've used are very well done.

Another thing that found was that the piano alone sounded a bit "dry".
I mean just a bit of reverb or sustain pedal would make it perfect.

Other than that I think this is another brilliant piece of yours :).

Keep it up!

Very pretty...You use a lot of very soothing instruments in this one, and it blends very well :D.

Soothingly beautiful. The piano was so relaxing and fantastic. I love this piece, its perfectly put together, with added touches of brilliance. Heh.
Keep up the great work ^_^

Thanks! I really appreciate it. Hopefully I can come up with some more stuff that's as good.

Great job!

I love the middle part, the melody is very good! What kind of flute did you use?
I was just keep thinking about it!
Hope this one will become top 5 this week! Good luck!

SinJim responds:

Thanks for the review. The flute is a solo flute from EastWest/Symphonic Orchestra Gold edition. Although throughout the song, I use different articulations for various parts. I wish this could be in the top 5, but classical has little chance of hitting top 5 due to the zero voting threshold being at about 4.25 instead of 4.43ish where the electronic genres are. Ah, but it's more just a reflection of what the majority of Newgrounds is into.

Thanks again for the review!
