While I was in school studying composition our department was approached by the radio station based on campus to see if any of the students would be interested in composing theme music for a new talk show they were starting.
BTW - they always approach students first because it's incredibly cheap (most times for free, but I was lucky with the $200 I got for it), they don't allow you to retain any rights to it so they don't pay you any residual money, and it's always sold to you as a "opportunity project"; like THEY'RE the ones doing you a big favor by letting you write music for them. Of course, when they're starting out most people ARE incredibly excited to do anything that looks remotely professional and legitimate; and rightfully so.
I did like three different mock-ups for them and they liked this one the most. By the time they recorded it for real, though, the instrumentation had changed dramatically and the main theme had been fleshed out to over a minute (rather than the 35 seconds I started with) and it had changed a little too. Bottom line: This was the original, I liked it much better than what we ended up with, and even though they're still using the theme for their talk show (maybe for 4 year now), this vers. is different enough that I think it's safe to put this up here without getting myself into trouble.
