(A virtual cookie to whoever reads all of this! xD)

I went to my friend's (a.k.a. Tamadrum) this morning and we decided to compose a piece. As we were unable to come up with a satisfactory chord progression, we resorted to using his phone number for the chords. :P

As we were writing a thunderstorm was brewing, which provided inspiration for the ensuing work. The following is the story which inspires the music;

As the song begins, a soldier is saying goodbye to his family. Knowing well that he may never come back, he embraces his wife and children in a final farewell. When the drums enter, he is joining with his platoon prior to the battle. As the drums came to a halt and the horn carries the melody, the two opposing armies gaze upon their enemies; the calm before the storm. At the entrance of the tremelo strings, the soldier steps forward with his fellow men to protect that which he loves. The volume swells, and the forces charge at one another. At the final drum beat which ends the song, the soldier clashes swords with his foe.

Personally, I like to imagine it as though being a movie trailer. Visualize the screen going black as the swords clash upon the final beat! That's EPIC! :O Tamadrum and I spent multiple hours building this piece. After selecting instruments and deciding upon a chord progression, the two of us took turns switching off and adding to what the other had done. Tamadrum completed the drum sequencing exclusively, and I built most of chord progression. Melodically, there are many different phrases pulling ideas from the two of us, making it a true collaboration.

Through blood, sweat, and tears (The sweating was all Tamadrum, j/k) we persevered and created this work. We present this to you as one, dear listener, in hopes that it may inspire you as it has us.

All the best,
BlazingDragon and Tamadrum

PS. We also worked on an incredible collab yesterday. It is four and a half minutes of sheer pwnage! (I don't mean to brag, but I can't deny the truth) It will be posted on his profile within the next week. I urge you to check it out along with his other music. We will be doing many more works together in the near (and distant) future! >:-D

PPS. The title is an allegory for war. This song describes the build up to the battle more so than the fight itself.

I remember this.

Gives you that feeling where something important is about to happen, like in an epic movie. Now that I mention it, this is perfect! Kudos to you!

BlazingDragon responds:

Thanks! Glad you liked it. :D

I love it!

Storms are a good inspiration, and I can feel that "Stormy" weight on this piece. I know somebody who went off to war, and he tried to tell me that I might never see him again. I told him that if he died over in Iraq, I would personally go over there, dig him up, drag him back home, and kill him for being such a selfish asshole.

Four years later, my brother came home, and the first words out of his mouth were: "Are you still going to kill me?" I nearly hugged him to death.

Anyways, the point is, this piece has a wonderful feel to it. Heavy, but hopeful at the same time. I'd say you've just earned a 10-star rating.

BlazingDragon responds:

I can relate. My cousin died in Iraq after running over a landmine and having all of his limbs amputated. Though I didn't know him that well, it was very sad. I'm glad that your brother came back safe.

Thanks for a great review. One's like this are extremely encouraging.

EPIC!

I could easily see this piece in The Return of the King. So many emotions in three minutes.

BlazingDragon responds:

That movie has amazing music. Thanks!

Simply amazing

This is a perfect storm, or battle opening, hopeful song! It makes me want to run out and give a jaw dropping war speech!

BlazingDragon responds:

Have you ever given one of those before? Lol. Thanks for reviewing!

wow

this is amazing everything sounds right to me its definitly army movie material but i tried to find that Allegory For War but i can't find it

BlazingDragon responds:

no, Allegory for War isn't the name of a track. What we meant is that this title, "The Approaching Storm", is an allegory relating to war. The other piece is on Tamadrum's profile and is called "Through Adversity of Night". :)
