Iroh Rides again

I made this song in honour of Mako, the voice actor of General Iroh in Avatar. He died in 2006 :(

The song itself was made with a nylon guitar recorded into garageband, where the sound had various filters applied to it and was optimized for listening with headphones.

It has about 22 tracks, all of them made with my guitar (what I'm saying is no Apple tracks were used).

I envisioned some epic character riding a horse towards a battle or something when I made this. Oh and if you're voting low, please leave constructive criticism!

Please excuse the quality of the actual guitar, it's an old crappy nylon one which is the only thing I had access to this weekend. I intend to re-record this eventually.

Oh god...

This is great, actually it's awesome, but I never knew the guy was dead.

AWESOME!

Hey can you please tell me the backing track chord progression and the scale you used to play the melody. This is so awesome I wanted to play it at home!

tikalal responds:

Hi tsenaku, unfortunately when I recorded this the guitar was only tuned to itself so an E for example would probably be sharp or flat or a different note altogether.

But what I was playing was E minor, A major for the first half of the song. When the chords change at 00:51 I'm playing A minor, F major, D major. The F major I play at 1:10-1:12 is open string (so not a bar chord) and the middle finger is taken off.

Since this was recorded a few years ago when I was 15 I don't really remember what the little thing at the end was.

I'm not sure what scale I was using for the melody as I don't know any scales and can't read music.

Since there are so many tracks I'm not sure if it's possible to play it with one guitar, but if you figure it out let me know how you did it!

Thanks for your kind words, and if there's anything else you'd like to know I'd be happy to let you know :)

RIP Mako

I became an Avatar fan very late in the series, so i loved Iroh. he was my second fave character. when i found out Mako died, i was quite sadden, because i thought Mako did Iroh so well. this is very sweet and im sure he was and still is missed for his films and his love

-R.I.P Mako Iwamatsu.

Sweet.

I loved this. The overdubbing of one guitar has always appealed to me, I may even write my own songs of this style soon. And good taste in music software again! I've only seen Garageband and Ableton Live (I saw one earlier made in Live) once in the portal. But they really do stand out.
10/10 for apple, and 10/10 for you. Great work!
Jon.

tikalal responds:

Thanks for the positive feedback! I was (still am) into a musician called Elliott Smith who overdubbed lots of guitars in all his songs and ever since the first time I played around in garageband I've done that.

Iroh Rides Again

Wow, this was awesome. Very symbolic.
