This is a piece I did for music theory class. We were supposed to write a 2 part Bartok style "Mikrokosmos". I do my homework on reason so after I'm done I mess around with different voices and what not. I thought it sounded pretty cool on the orchestra voice, especially when the tympani comes in. Feel free to use this for your flash. Also in case anyone cares, this is on the C half-whole Octatonic scale. The octatonic scale is becoming one of my favorite scales. I recently wrote a heavy metal song in octatonic as well and I'll post it here soon. It's a versatile scale which can be used in many different ways, from traditional tonal harmony to atonal harmony.
The notes in this scale are:
C, C#, Eb, E, Gb, G, A, A#
They fall into two groups:
group 1: C, Eb, Gb, A
group 2: C#, E, G, A#
as you can see this forms 2 different diminished chords. So you can go back and forth between them and depending on where you are putting your bass note you can have paralell minor 3rd, and paralell major 3rds.
I could go on and on about this but this is just some of the stuff I learned in class. Anyway, enjoy the music.
