I'll admit this isn't my best song, but it was just a short first attempt at composing with SNES instrumentation, and I still think it's worth sharing. I had "JRPG nautical battle" in mind when making this. I want to try and get better at composing with this kind of stuff because I normally stick to VSTs I am comfortable with and it doesn't always portray the kind of "video-gamey" feel I have in mind. Two people I really look up to with this kind of music would be Toby Fox and William Kage. Everyone on this site probably knows the first of those two names, but I would really recommend looking into William Kage. He is phenomenal at composing in the style of this era. Anyways, these older synths can be really delicate and are especially challenging to mix correctly (I kind of gave up on that front for this song.) I will definitely need to think differently about how to compose with these, as several ideas I had were shot down when I couldn't figure out to make them work with these instruments. Hopefully I will be able to improve in the future, as I really love so many songs that use these. As usual, any tips or criticisms are appreciated.
