If you like this kind of piano pieces, follow me for more 🥰

Thank you very much for the front page! What a nice surprise!

I've updated it with a better end. I was really not satisfied with this piece, so the actual reception is beyond any expectations!

Now I'm satisfied enough with it. I hope I manage to transfer to you a little bit of the well being it procures me when I play.

6th place in the NGUAC! Very nice surprise for me! Thank you very much for the appreciation you show for my music! ❤

this piano piece is so beautiful!!! I love this sm!! <3
and also congrats on getting into the next round!! I wish you luck! :3

Solacitude responds:

I was quite sure you were winning the round until the last minute!
You're a very good composer too! Electronic and dubstep are not my favorite styles, but I see the quality in what you do for sure! It sounds like you put lots of attention to details in the music you craft!

Thanks for the good words, and congrats to you for getting up to this round, it's also an accomplishment, and your 3rd place in NGUAC!! Well deserved!

So for context, the entry I judged right before was also a piano piece (by lucidshadowdreamer no less), so theoritically, not the best of songs to follow up on as you have to live up to the standards they set.

Honestly ? You freaking nailed it !

The piano sounds really clean and I'm in love with the melodies and the mood you were going for.

It's super charming and I feel like there's a piece of storytelling that inspired you which you're hiding from us x)

A piece of criticism I often give to solo instrument tracks is that I feel it lacks elements (ear candies, instruments, etc...)
In this case, not only do I think it's not the case, I'm actually glad it doesn't have any more !

With that said, there's a huge issue with the song...

It only lasts 3 and a half minutes.

How could you do this to me, I want moooooooooooooore

This is legitimately one of the rare ADM pieces I'd put on my Soundcloud playlist (and for context, it happened just twice in 3 years).

I don't think I ever rated an entry so high, especially a solo instrument one. Legit been listening to it for 40 minutes <3

Solacitude responds:

When someone connects with one of my compositions, it gives quite a good feeling, a little bit like being understood, that I expressed something that other minds can catch and appropriate for themselves. When a musician connects it comes with a bit of a bonus for the confidence.

There is a lot of personal baggage that might flow into every composition, a little reflection of different elements of my life, past, thoughts and feelings, personal and about the world. I try to connect to the subconscious to gather ideas when I compose, so there might be lots of things flowing into it, that might be hidden even from me!

I was thinking of the odds going for piano solo as pretty low, but I thought no matter what the contests are perfect to get an idea of how I sound to people, get to know if my music is worth sharing. The results up to now are beyond any expectations!

I'm already very satisfied with all the feedbacks, help I've got to fix mixing issues, listening to great composers, and meeting many very skilled and talented people who share the same passion for music. I won't lie though, getting further in the NGADM would be an awesome addon to the list! :)

Being compared to a talented pianist such as LSD means a lot to me! He's among the best, if not the best I listened to on NG! Then the highest rating ever, listening to it for 40 minutes, and 1 of 2 pieces you'd add on playlist in 3 years is kind of making me blush! No seriously I don't know what to say but thank you very much! It must be one of the most encouraging comments I received! It's truly heartwarming! ❤

Oh wow, your improvement is crazy! I love your music, I know you'll go far. Great work mate :)

Solacitude responds:

The actual mix is sure better than the previous versions! :) It's a big prize in itself, getting feedbacks from people with very fine ears, other musicians and producers and people with artistic inclination, it helped a lot to improve. Thank you very much for the kind words!

I like the wave-like piano riff at the beginning and the bright, even tone of the piece at :21. At times, the piece could be a bit more expressive, and it especially sounds a bit understated during the first minute, but that begins changing at around :56. The softer tone at 1:26 is good for some variety, and the strumming effect of the more fast-paced arpeggios at 2:02 is really lovely. Combined with the slower pace of the chords, the strumming harmonies create a great call-and-response effect. The extended cadence at the end is a nice touch as well. I think the piece could use a more distinct “point of arrival” towards the end to add some closure. The melody line at 2:19 sounds pretty cathartic, but also a bit…again, the word that comes to mind is understated. Still, I really like how the piece is structured, the balance of frequencies, and a lot of the individual motifs. Really strong work overall, Solacitude! Thanks for coming out to the NGUAC. ^_^

Solacitude responds:

I had a hard time to come up with something I deemed good enough to post for the final.
I produced a bunch of garbage during this period before getting to this piece.

I think I get what you mean by understated, it might lack a little bit of development of certain motives that I could've built more complexity over, instead of jumping to another motif too quickly. I could make it more thought out, it's quite simple themes that could evolve more in complexity, harmonizing better, adding voices to the part after 2:00. The end I also thought it felt a bit rushed.... Oh well it was rushed! :) I went for an improvisational ending that truly could be better. I went for modulations going into chords that are not heard anywhere else in the piece so it can easily sound off to some listeners I think.. After 2:00 it was all done the last day up until the last hours before deadline. In the end the reception is quite a lot better than what I anticipated though!

I continue to work on this one, and will maybe post the final result in here, but under another title, to keep this one intact so it always fits the comments and score related to the contest.

Thank you very much for the review and kind words! And even more for hosting the NGUAC and all it involves! It's surely a lot of time you dedicate to it, and I feel like it has to be said, thank you for giving musicians this opportunity to test our ability to compose!
