I Like to Hit Things

Last Update: Blarg! I just uploaded it and I played it back only to hear that one section had stuffed up volume levels, so I fixed that, tweaked a couple of things, and NOW it's absolutely final.

Update again: I think the composition aspect of this is absolutely final now, a little bit of extra dynamics, but it's only barely noticeable. Anyway, this is the final, the one for judging for the MAC8-Pillars of Pico, Dad 'n Me section. Enjoi!!!

While I'm at it I might as well do a bit of a story to it.
The song starts out with the father and son, going about their normal day, walking through the park, hitting anyone that gets in their way. What fun! Then the time change is their picnic spot, and there happens to be some kids in that spot. So they pick out their targets, and bash them one by one, a little slower, and more laborous task, but they've got their perfects spot now. But it's still mid-morning, lets go kiddie hunting. So the fast part is them running through the park swinging their fists all over the place, hitting lots of things. But oh-noes! There's another bully in the area, and him and his dad want to fight us! So dad 'n me wrestle with the other big guys, and manage to pin them to the ground until they call defeat, and they sit on the bench watching their defeated foes run away, distressed. That's the minor part, and the brief major part after it. Then they spend the afternoon tripping up the occasional kid, but they're getting a little tired. Dad says to me, we should probably go home soon, your mom will be waiting for us, so they make the most of the end of the day, a last ditch of beating up some more children, and they make their way towards home, as the sun sets on the horizon. (Would that not be the most awesomest newgrounds day movie ever?!)

Update: Here's a more coplete version, the slow section is shorter and I've added a fast section and a key change, so it gets a bit different near the end. It's not quite finished yet, further criticism is welcome, if you haven't reviewed it already, please do, tell me what you think.

I'd like to know what people think of this. It's simple, it's fun, but it's also repetitive, and I need to mix it up more and add a lot of variation to it. I really like the tempo shift, and if I could add a couple more, I could probably get the SMW ending theme type snazzy sound. It's still a long way off being finished, but here it is anyway, up for criticism. It's supposed to be in the style of Dad 'n Me. This song's for you, Dan Paladin! <3

Very nice.

Y'know, this -screams- clown music. It's got that...comical feeling to it IMO. Despite the lack of effects, it's still a good track because it doesn't really need any. You managed to pull off a tempo change very nicely too. I don't really mind the repetitiveness because I hear enough variation for such a short track. I'm more into emotional classical songs and I have to admit that I never really liked comical-sounding piano songs, but from an unbiased point of view, it's a great track. Nice job.

Thanks! I appreciate the nice review.

Not too bad.

It was a good sounding piece of music, I actually enjoyed it, but it just got too repetitive at times. It has a good unique sound to it compared to a lot of the other music I've heard on the Audio Portal as of recently. I liked when it slowed down a lot, that was damn good. Nice work with this piece, and I'm looking forward to more from you!

Thanks, I should hopefully have this finished pretty soon, so I'll work on making it less repetitive.
Cheers for the review!

Good show chap

this works quite well as a standalone piece. it could be used in some lighthearted and funny play or flash of sorts, like a mime riding a unicyle or something. But it's definetly a joyful composition throughout despite you saying it lacks variation. real nice catchy rhythm scheme, joyful higher pitched melodies with the graceful lower tones, overall an excellent composition. some nice tasteful dissonance in here too, which helps the mood. tempo slowdown was well executed, and the arpeggiated chord you ended on was beautiful.

one thing this could use is some velocity and dynamics variation. as long as its not percussion its not a big deal with me, but it'll make your sound more authentic. reverb is not really needed here, although if you slap some on you could create a more "live" feel. i would usually say add strings or another instrument to accompany the solo piece in this track, but this is already very entertaining by itself that the piano accomplishes the job alone.

Thanks for the comments. I'll probably put some more attention to the dynamics and expression. Cheers for the review. Very helpful.

I don't know why, but this reminds me of pokemon. A really bright and happy videogamish theme that would probably fit nicely in somekind of RPG or sprite series . . . or game. Very nice melody, quick and varied, and the sound quality is great as well. Really looking forward to the real thing, keep up the great work!

Thanks, man.

Funky piano. *taps foot* Faved. :3

- Good stuff -
Yeah this sort of reminded me of a side-croll beat 'em up but with more happy parts but happy music can sometimes be put in bad situations to make it funny (like Dan 'N me). Awesome intro intro and the layering of the piano was very good. All of the high and lows made me hum along and all of those other things that happen automatically when you listen to awesome music (+3). The slowed down aprt was very effective at the end and was at the correct tempo.
I normally write my reviews while i'm listening but this one actually made me listen to it over and over again.

- Bad stuff and improvments -
Dosn't really sound classical to me more of a misc song but it did have some Classic in it. But that's got nothing to with the song but there's nothing else to say. <_>

Thanks for the good review and the fav. I might make it a bit more snappy and chuck it in the jazz section.
