A small project of mine, where I tried to get some Drum "N Bass influenced rave/ trance music. And a bit of an ambient/ calm and slow intro. It's pretty repetitive, mostly because there wasn't a whole lot I think I could add to it. :(

I still like it a bit though, and maybe you will too! ;D

2/10/08 EDIT: Forgot to mention, the drums were sampled from navij11's "Christmas Gift's" thread. You can find them here: http://www.newgrounds.com /bbs/topic/833332

Don't forget to take out the space that's hidden there, I think it's between ".com" and "/bbs"

Grave Rave

Well for drum n bass, I think you need more highs... your snare hits are good, the second hit that has significantlyless velocity seems a bit amissthough.

My main complain in my opinion, is your main synth. It doesn't sound eqed, and after 2:13 it pushes your sound out a bit. It's really grinding, I'd add some delay on it, and a flanger, really fuck that thing up. Maybe some bitcrusher, distortion, tube, tape, honestly the more fucked it is, generally the better it sounds and the less grinding :)

Your drum beats are effective. Just try some more hats and ride :)

With some work and production, this could be a really banging tune.

New-Milkman responds:

Thanks! I didn't really know a whole lot about building reeses, but I'm definatly working on mixing much better ones, as well as creating my own drum sounds (or at least as much as I can). Because like I said, the drums are sampled from Nav's "X-mas gift". And the second hit you mention is probably one that I threw in myself for a bit of variety.

That's much better. the beggining sounded like something off of queen! awsome. very nice, good producin'!

XD Breaks

Nice use of my drums! if you want to get rid of the second hit on the highhat, either turn up the slicing, or simply decrease the note length of the hihat in the piano roll.

Reese could use some work. It feels like 2 detuned saws, and that's all. It wasn't growly, morphy, or anything. Try to work on that, with distortion, modulation, filtering, etc. Eventually, you will be able to get a really nice reese.

Nice job, 10 for using my breaks XD

New-Milkman responds:

Alright, I'll work on reeces a little more, because it IS jsut 2 detuned saws with a little bit of EQ'ing. Glad you like what I did with the drums, I personally thought they might be a little basic.

And a 10 for using your breaks?! >:D

the main concern for me was the high hat:
____ _______
___/ \_____/ \
___ _____
\____/ \_______/

is an ugly waveshape for a high hat, seeing as it is carrying the rythm, you need a high hat with a quick attack, and a single hit, instead of 2

also, the reece needs a bit of mixing, i know i know, lots of bass, i used to do that too, but there IS such thing as too much, i have found out, when i finally got sick of hearing it in my own songs, also, you may want a high frequency instrument, it may not seem right, but it is usually neccessary to hold a song together.

also, you should switch the drum beat up once or twice, then you could make it longer and not have it repeditive.

i liked the kick and snare, and the low bell thing, good job on those, really nice

New-Milkman responds:

Forgot to mention in the description, all the drum samples were cut up in the Fruity Slicer using navij11's break samples he provided on Christmas.

As for the bass, I didn't find it to be that bad on my speakers. Then again, I like to have lots of bass, maybe more so than some people like And with anything drum and bass, I like to really stay in the low frequencies, but I guess I could have mixed it up a bit more with some higher sounds once in a while. I'll see how I can tie things up with higher instruments next time.

I'd have to agree with the drum beat, it gets played way too much. But I had some problems thinking up of any other ones. I'll see if I can write up some diversity while keeping it somewhat the same next time I do something like this.

Thanks for the review!
