Hello Newgrounds!
It's storytime! Each section is represented by a different part of the song.
~~~~~~~~~~
In 1951, an African-American woman stepped into The Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore where she would be diagnosed and treated for cervical cancer. The treatment would never completely work, and she would die because of it.
A piece of her tumor would be taken and miraculously, it would continue to grow and flourish outside of her body. These cells would be called the HeLa line, and they would constitute a breakthrough.
Doubt would be cast, but an immortal human cell line is too revolutionary to give up on.
Wonder after wonder, miracle after miracle, HeLa would prove its usefulness in the exploration of many anatomical and medical procedures, being used to develop vaccines, medicines, tests, and many more things.
But wait... for a long time, nobody really stopped to wonder where these cells come from. Who died for these immortal cells?
Her name was Henrietta Lacks.
"As the world behind you burns
As a sacrifice remains unreturned
After you died while nobody cared
We call upon you, and healer is there"
Thanks for listening!
