you know i didn't expect you to sound like that, its an amazing voice
I was originally going to turn this story into an animation (it's the one I'd mentioned in my New Year's post about being close to the bone) but I decided I'd just adapt it into a prose format so I could use it as my entry into the short story contest here.
I also really wanted to get this out by Trans Visibility Day, which I just barely managed to accomplish. (I finished writing just last night) The characters in this story are real, but the events inside are entirely fictional; I still fear them though, and writing has always been the best way for me to deal with my fears.
I hope you enjoy, just as a fair warning, it's not particularly explicit, but deals with some heavy subject matter.
*UPDATE* I did end up turning this into a visual novel sort of thing. I'm going to leave this version up, just for folks who'd rather listen than watch, but I consider the visual novel the definitive version of this story.

Thanks! I've been told this, but I don't really see it!
Damn, this story is amazing, and the slightly monotone voice in which you tell it - which may or may not be a conscious decision to apply - works really well with it. The production could use some loving: the volume is kinda low, some EQ and a minute touch of reverb would add some sparkle to your voice and the background noise is an undefined rumble - either try to get rid of it or make sure it has definition. As for the storytelling itself, I don't think you need to actively put on another voice for your different characters, but if you don't, slightly longer pauses between their lines would help differentiate between them.
If you ever have another story like this one and polish it up like that, you'll have certified grade A material on your hands. Keep 'em coming!
Thanks! Yeah, the production was a rush job so that I could get it out right away and I know I’m probably not the best narrator either, but I might have to do something else with the story at some point or another. :)
I have some animations that are similar in the writing style, but they’re usually written as more of poems too. Thanks for the pointers! And thanks for listening too!
I agree, heavy subject matter, but really well executed. I really could keep listening to see how the character deals with their emotions in a world that is seemingly against their truth. The ambiguous ending is great though. Can't help but think how they would navigate the rest of their day in this gathering.
Thank you! The main character is very much myself, so I tried my best to articulate the finer points without letting it stray too far from the narrative.
Please contact me if you would like to use this in a project. We can discuss the details.
