Fun track to work on for sure. The little arp that floats in out at points actually comes from an abandoned project from over two years ago. Jeeeez!
I'm glad it didn't simply die on my harddrive, though one thing of note is that the midi for it was actually reversed originally.
All other elements in this piece are from scratch and as such I found flipping it made it sit better alongside the overall tone.
Look at me talking about the more minor aspect of the track!
With Vermillion Cumuli I tried to combine some sounds and idiosyncracies which I employed in some of my earlier productions from two years ago, with things I've been delving into / trying out this year in particular.
I'd say the more four-on-the-flour / dance-ish drums and arppegiated melody harken back to my past formula for making music. Conversely, the quasi-dubstep growls that pop in and out, drum glitches, and frequent modulation of the lead melody's timbre and reverb tail represent more of my recent endeavours. Also the small orchestral chops that lay underneathe it all.
The title is nothing special, just thought it was a cool combination of words. I recall coming across the word (and subsequently the colour of) vermillion as a kid and finding it rather interesting. As for the "cumuli" part, I must have been staring at the sky a bit too much that day....
