Electronic - Trance

Author Comments

After hearing everyone's comments about v.3, and rethinking the song a bit, I decided to change its concept drastically. It still retains much of its original sound, but the feel has been made much smoother and more ethereal. Below is exactly what's been done.

First, the simple changes:
-The song is shorter than v.3 by 1:44, making it a more reasonable 6:47 in length
-Entire opening build has been cut, jumping right into main bass theme
-First visit with chorus has been cut in half
-Finale has been cut by 1/3
-Bass line during "incident" section (1:51+) has been toned down significantly, making it more mellow
-Shutdown sound effect at 2:24 has been considerably toned down as well

The big change is that most of the song now has a new "vocal" layer, which in most places is a completely new melody component. This layer is most notable during the chorus, the build-up, and the finale. I'm a bit nervous about this change as, like I said above, it changes the dynamic of the song completely, but I think it is for the better. This addition takes the place of all the intense, retro synths that were in the finale previously. Whereas the old song version had a pulsing, electronic-only feel, it is now more sweeping and orchestral. We'll see how it goes!

The other major change is the overhaul of the finale. In addition to the synths being removed and the vocals/strings added in their place, the main element of the ending is now a major key change.

At this point I'm pretty much done with this song, so hopefully you like it. Feedback and reviews are always appreciated, and many thanks for giving it a listen!

Definite improvement!

The shorter file size is nice cuz I don't have much space on my MP3 player. The song itself is wonderful with all the changes you made. Excellent job! 10/10, 5/5.

Superb! A significant improvement

I really enjoyed the first version of this song, however this iteration is considerably better in all respects. The added vocal layer not only provides a very different feel to the whole song, it also adds a necessary depth that the last version was lacking. The shorter length, revamped bass sections, and more "orchestral" tone all contribute to a much more pleasing aural experience. Rather than a literal representation of a space battle, this is an artistic and emotional interpretation of a conflict, leaving much more to the imagination. My only's the only song by Gimbal Lock! I'll expect more quality material from them in the new year. Keep up the good work!

Good for the genre

Would have been perfect for a Newgrounds game. Good job.

I like it

It was sort of bland in the begging but then it became better at about 1:40. I really liked the tribal-like drumming. I don't make or listen to much electronica of any kind, so I dont know what to say. I seemed well made.
