This is a fun little song I wrote about three years ago, telling the story of a horrific train accident, that I recently decided to record again for the new album I'm making.
This track is my affectionate parody of the British Invasion groups of the early 60s, largely inspired by The Beatles, The Swinging Blue Jeans, The Searchers, Dave Clark Five, Hermans Hermits, etc.
As a huge fan of that music, this was a very fun recording to make.
Below are the lyrics.
LYRICS: My daddy worked on the railway, as his papa done before.
Now I'm an engine driver, and I couldn't ask for more.
I stop at all the stations, go along the countryside.
I'm the envy of my brothers, and I can't contain my pride.
Stop! The story don't end there, oh no.
Turn back! The truth you just can't bear.
Because it's fire smoke and ashes, and building up the steam.
From fire smoke and ashes, I sweep the cab floor clean.
On the latest journey, something had gone wrong.
Another train came comin' on the track that I was on.
"You must all brace for impact!" loudly cried the guard.
Me and fireman knew we weren't going very far.
Crash! Two trains have hit each other.
Bang! I'm afraid there are no survivors.
Because there's fire smoke and ashes, scattered 'round the rails.
From fire smoke and ashes, hope did not prevail.
In fire smoke and ashes, all promise burned away.
In fire smoke and ashes, the reaper had his way.
