A cover of Toby Fox's "Battle Against A True Hero" in the style of music from Touhou 6, with some elements of Flowey's themes blended in there as well. This is something I'm not ashamed to admit to being really proud of, as replicating the specific vibes from that era of Touhou isn't exactly easy. Given that ZUN's music is one of my big inspirations when it comes to music, it almost feels like a dream come true!

This cover was made using the Amen Break, as well as samples from Chrono Trigger, the Roland Sound Canvas VST, and the Edirol SD-90.

I like the frantic, cutesy piano and string riff at the beginning. The choir sample is a bit cheesy, and I think the drums could’ve been more prominent in the mix at times, especially towards the end. The adventuresome mood and strong melodic content really won me over here, though. The mixing is pretty good overall, but I would’ve liked to see you give the bass a bit more room so that the notes could sound more distinct. The piano bridge at 1:38 was also a good idea, and the synth brass at 1:58 was a nice way of driving the piece home. The piece has a really engrossing mood and energy to it, and despite my quarrels with some of the sound design choices towards the beginning, the instrumentation works well at the end of the day. Really fun piece overall, Fantasyck! Keep it up. :D

not usually a fan of undertale remixes and i was on the fence on this until the ending section. i think the first 90 seconds or so suffers from sounding overly busy while not having a lot of impact - my instinct is to up the kick and snare and pull the choirs, hihats and shakers down. really enjoyed the ending though, that cheesy bright trumpet just works so well and i'm a sucker for the amen break. i would definitely lowpass the amens a little and maybe throw a subsynth or just bass boost them a little since they felt a bit anemic. had a lot of fun listening to this!

Fantasyck responds:

Come to think of it, I guess I could've stood to mess with the EQ a bit now that you point it out lol. Thanks for the detailed feedback - I always appreciate it when people are crystal-clear about what they think works well and what they think doesn't work well, and I'll absolutely try to keep it in mind the next time I try making a song in this style.

I'm ashamed to say this when you're so proud of this song but its not quite Touhou 6 until the very end with the trumpets. Zunpets were the huge change that made 6, 7, and 8 so iconic. What this sounds a whole lot like though is Seihou. (If you aren't aware of Seihou, its a bullet hell series ZUN made the music for between the retro and classic windows era.)
I really like the sound of the Seihou songs, but I don't really like the melodies and song structures of most of them. So, the fact that you made one with a good melody and structure is (IMO) the real pride of this song. And don't get the wrong idea about this. Its a good song. I usually hide my scores regardless of what I rate but I'm not in order to emphasize this.

Fantasyck responds:

Nah, don't worry, I think I get what you're saying. Touhou, Seihou... either way, hearing that I nailed the "early ZUN MIDI music" vibe means a lot, and I'm glad you enjoyed the way the song played out (even if it's technically based off of a pre-existing song lol). Thanks for the kind words!
