A year into the first place I rented in London, my flatmates and friends were heading to New York to see Pee-wee's Playhouse live on stage. The airline for my San Diego Comic Con flight in 2009 had supplemented me a voucher for exchanging my seat for a later flight, and that was a dead expensive flight for someone on a junior wage, so I ended up in a really nice seat for this flight and it takes out the blow of having spent that much on just one flight in the first place! I don't think I can count SDCC as a holiday, it wasn't relaxing nor did I actually see much of San Diego (I enjoyed seeing the inside of the convention centre), so I guess this was my first proper holiday?! Maybe? I never really knew how to give myself breaks, so this was most welcome. I had a great time, really enjoyed the stage show and getting shitfaced.
I started to compose this song on my flight there and on my flight back. Painfully piecing together the main drum groove from a band session of my brother's drumming. Once home from NY, I picked up the trombone to lay onto this, as I didn't want the song to be completely synth driven, it needed to have something more organic in there as I based my sound around mixing the two elements. And I wanted some monotonous vocal hook, something punk/post-punk and repetitive to drive through the song too. Sorry to my neighbours who had to endure the trombone playing (not sorry rly, never met them)!
