Okay here's another from my 2019 demo album "Under the Goldstar: The Floorboard Demos (Vol. I)". This is the most poppy one, yet most monotonous, and thus my least favorite. Too cheesy, too cliche. But hey I gotta get these out of the way before I get to the good stuff. I will say, and I give you my word, that I will NEVER make a song this poppy ever again. But let me know what you guys think! I tend to be pretty self critical.

Anyways, if you'd like to hear the whole demo album, you can find it on Spotify, Soundcloud, YouTube, or just about any major platform. Hope you enjoy!

Nah, I like poppy stuff though, haha! Better to get out of your own head sometimes, but being self-critical is good for keeping your standards on an upward trend. I think Bitbeak got some of the only things that make it feel same-y throughout, but for my thoughts some small production/arrangement things could easily mitigate that criticism. I love how light the whole vibe is; the little sizzle of the ride cymbal on the drums feels good when the chorus hits. I do think maybe the bottom end could be filled out a bit more on the chorus to make it feel like more of a payoff - like some sort of stronger bass element that grounds it all a bit. I know there's already a bass guitar, but it and the kick drum feel very reserved during the chorus. But maybe that's not quite the right vibe for the tune, so I dunno - just a brainstorm! :)

Very tight playing, and you've got a great voice!

floorboardofficial responds:

Yes, I definitely agree some greater dynamism in the production would help loads. Thanks for the feed back though! Much appreciated!

Poppy isn’t inherently a bad thing. I think I’d be more inclined to nit pick that it’s a bit one note. Like the singing is mostly in the same tone (especially on the chorus) and the instrumental is similar in that regard.

That said, the production is really, really clean. It’s a nicely made track overall and you handle the transitioning from part to part well.

floorboardofficial responds:

Yes, it is horrendously monotonous! I don’t think I even knew what dynamics were back then hahaha. But hey I appreciate your compliments on the production! And you’re right, poppy isn’t inherently a bad thing, but boy do I cringe at the songwriting nowadays. Thanks for giving it a listen though, and big thanks for the feedback!
