great performance of an interesting piece
Cool last movement. In my review of the first part I said I heard influences of Stravinsky in this sonatina (indeed, some almost exact quotes from his work!), but there seems to be a reference to Ravel's piano concerto here too. Listen to 1:39-1:44 and compare it to the third movement of Ravel's PC, about a minute into the movement.
There were some other moments in this sonatina too where I was pretty sure Bozza quotes another composer. I love this intertextuality, certainly when it's more than just a collage of snippets, but rather a functional use of fragments in an organic whole. As for the performance, it's simply outstanding.
Yet again, Fantastic!
This piece is astounding. The ordered chaos is so wondrously overwhelming, and I can't help but listen to this over and over!
If you don't mind me asking, what is the makeup of your quintet?
