Back in 2019, I took an interest in Kirby and developed a fondness for Kirby's Dream Land 3 due to its soundtrack and art style invoking a "kindergarten" sensation in me only made stronger by the fact it was released the year I was born, 1997. My birth and the game's release are nearly five months apart, the former occurring on June 30 and the latter on November 27. In order to fight the final boss of the game, Kirby must collect all thirty Heart-Stars to purge all the levels of Dark Matter and form the Love-Love Stick. Those of you who are familiar with my work or my Tweets or other comments I've posted online know of my love for a webcomic called Gwendy & Ghost, which is based on the life of its creator, Ciara Jackson. Jackson was born on November 27, 1991, exactly six years prior to the release of Kirby's Dream Land 3, while Gwendy, who's based on Jackson, was born January 4, 1991. Gwendy & Ghost begins in 1996 with Gwendy at age five and starting kindergarten. Gwendy loves to draw and frequently wears a gold star locket with a red heart on it. She's commonly depicted with the outfit she wore on her first day of kindergarten, which is the one shown above. This art of Gwendy is based on a dream version of herself at age ten, though she lacked her red shoes in the dream.
Hearts and stars? Check. Red and gold? Check. Stripes? Check. Entered the world in the 1990s? Check. Connection to November 27? Check. How could I not draw this? You could even say the Love-Love Stick gave Gwendy this outfit like how Kirby's Copy Abilities give him different hats and/or skin colors.
