Infidel ("كافر‎") is a term used in certain religions for those accused of unbelief in the central tenets of their own religion, for members of another religion, or for the irreligious.

It also means someone who refuses to live his/her life according to the terms dictated by an old book which is a compilation of bizarre superstitions and fictitious tales. Infidels usually have a brain of their own and they choose to use it on a daily basis. Some infidels are atheists, some are agnostic and some are spiritual.

With tensions at an all time high in Afghanistan, exhausted from how they feel they're being perceived, troops have taken to wearing patches and carrying items that label themselves infidels, and offer translation in local dialect.

The word infidel means literally "one without faith" who rejects the central teachings of a major religion, like Islam.
