Spent the last year studying cell shading and various techniques to pull it off.
Niyama has gone through many revisions, was featured in a game (currently on hiatus) and has grown far more complex.
From 2d stickers for eyes, to fully 3D with working eyelids, and even lenses.
Her face is cut up into many quadrants to ensure proper lighting regardless of conditions. This gets rid of the 'creepy doll' look, among other oddities in cell shaded 3d.
She was rendered in Unity and was made using various Autodesk tools, Mostly Maya LT.
