The Cesspit [EP. 3] "Tip off of the old pen"

Share

Welcome to Cesspit! My "podcast" series where I find the humblest folks on Newgrounds and ask them the REAL questions. This is the second episode, I hope y'all like it and support our guest:

@GlassPen123

[ON AIR]

Wen: Hello guys. I'm Wen and welcome to another instance of The Cesspit. This is our third episode and we're sharing it with Pen. What do you have to say to our readers?

Pen: At the moment, I'm glad to be here, the RNG gods were on my side and I'm here as the guest for the third installment.

Wen: What do you do? What do you have to give to your fans on Newgrounds?

Pen: Off on a good one! Well, I never really joined newgrounds in search of fans, just to share my art. They sort of came when my activity on the BBS increased and I got aquanted with everyone, so to answer your question with that tidbit of information, just really anything I'm in the mood of posting, I've never seen myself as someone making a profession out of anything in the creative industry, more so Newgrounds just seems to be a great place to let off some steam and share what I've done in my spare time. People who follow me will never really know what to expect, I may just delve into other mediums rather than art if I ever get the time to learn.

Wen: Would you say you're an octopus that reaches his arms across planets or do you consider yourself a rogue planet?

Pen: I've always seen myself as a rouge planet that finds true peace by himself, but never straying too far from an octopus in preparation for when his thoughts get the better of him. The vastness of space can be beautiful, but too much of it drives a man mad.

Wen: Okay, now, on with the real questions. Why Guy Fieri? You KNOW what I'm talkin' 'bout!

Pen: Okay, we have to delve back a little to when I made my Newgrounds last Christmas. Newgrounds has always been the pinnicale of true self expression and lacking in the drivel that is professionalism. I knew I could get away with having some random Guy Fieri meme as my pfp, with no other explination and a lack of a profile bio. So I did it, I didn't have anything better to choose from my reaction images. I guess I decided it was good for the moment at the time and was going to make something better once I got established and figured everything out. But days quickly turned into months as I discovered the BBS and I just got known as "The dude with the Guy Fieri profile picture". I know, it's dissapointing, there's no crazy story like "I'm a huge Guy Fieri fan, I love his shows and tours", in reality, I've never watched a single episode in full. Originally I wanted to keep myself from memeing as Guy Fieri, keep it from defining myself, but the persona quickly took a hold of me and shredded my true identity like the skin falling off a perfect rib.

Wen: So you don't really... Know what to identify yourself as?

Pen: What do you mean by that?

Wen: Profile pictures are the faces of the Internet. You don't really relate or care about Guy, yet you grew accostumed to his face. Do you really know who you are?

Pen: Everyday I feel like I'm slipping out of this reality, I found myself as if out of a coma, gawking at my bathroom mirror wearing a flame embroided bowling shirt the other day. My hair was spiked and I had a bottle of peroxide in my right hand. I am very scared.

Wen: You gotta take them Normal Pills, Pen.

Pen: He tells me not to, I can't go to Flavor Town if I take the normal pills.

Wen: You gettin' outta bounds! Anyways, favorite thing on this site. What is it? Don't say porn.

Pen: I'd have to say its history, there's been so many things that have happened in the past twenty-something years that this site has been around for, I feel like I'll never catch up on it all, thank goodness for the amount of classic uers we still have around or we'd be missing out on so much. Arson threats, suicide letters, FBI notices and the works! It's amazing how enough passion for a project can keep something as beautiful as Newgrounds alive long enough to see everything the modern internet has had thrown at it.

Wen: What would you say is your favorite online creature? And how do they influence or inspire you?

Pen: Hpmh, that's a toughie. A few of my recent antics and behaviors socially have been inspired of those in the Newgrounds community and another few inspired by other sites, like 4chan and youtube. But a lot of my work and stylization comes from sources on the outside. I've been very odd with my involvement in the NG community work-wise, I'll be honest, so I don't think I've ever picked up anything that I've incorperated into my art, so it's hard to pinpoint the source of insperation in something that is spread throughout my day instead of found in a single image file.

Wen: Well, what do you have to say to not only your fans but also young kids at home about... I dunno, life in general?

Pen: It's gonna be hard, I can't sugarcoat it. There's times that you'll be kicked in the nuts and go home with sore balls, only to realize that the roof of your house caved in under a foot of snow. It's not easy, I know every Boomer under the sun has said it, but they were all right, enjoy the time that you have as a kid, it's not as long as you think it is. I've always held the Black Ops zombies quote near to my heart in these last few years: "Don't pray for easier lives, pray to be, stronger men" Don't pull a me and try to figure out everything at the last second after you heasitated all your time away because you were afraid of what the future held. Sophomore year of High School is in my opinion, the best time to find your path, the earlier you hop on to figure out what you can do to make your life click, the easier of a time you'll have.

Wen: Man, you sure have passed some words. Would you like to put an end to the interview or is there something else you wanna tell people?

Pen: I think I've said all that needs to be for this interview. I appreciate you taking time out of your day for this, I think it's important we get a better insight of the BBS users away from all the brap and femboy threads, get a look into their real thoughts.

Wen: And that's what I'm trying to do with The Cesspit. In a way, avoiding the cesspit itself. One last question though. Short answer. If you were walking a long road and at the end you found a gaping canyon, would you be afraid to fall down?

Pen: Not if there wasn't any reason to jump in.

Wen: Well, reader, let all of that sink in...

... And stay tuned for the next episode of The Cesspit. We'll have a very special guest. You! That's right, anyone can participate. If you wanna see yourself in this heck hole and if you see me looking for folks on the BBS, be sure to try your luck out! See you soon.
