A piece I finished quite a while ago, actually. Revisiting the mermaid theme. Same image, painted. It didn't actually turn out as good as I wish it had in terms of imagery but I was really happy with it technically. Fucked the shadow up big time, used black and then realized I'm never supposed to do that, so I peeled it off and painted over it. Hey, at least I'm honest about it. Interesting texture, though.

This is probably the longest amount of time I've spent on a single artwork, 45 minute session average daily for about 2 weeks adding up to maybe... 6 or 7 hours? A lot of that time was painting over it and trying to get the colours that I wanted. Actually mainly done as a technical study, I wanted to see how fine my brushwork could get in one go on a micro scale. I might redo this later in the year on a way bigger scale (A1 at least, this is A3).

Title is the original Danish title of "The Little Mermaid". The tragic one.

Dude this is awesome. I love the mood that you get just by looking at this

UndefinedArt responds:

Thanks man :) Yeah I was really trying hard to capture emotion and subtlety, particularly in the face. Played around with colours for a long time before I settled on the palette. I think the saturation is just a bit too high for the mood I'm going for so now I'm toning it down.
