They're so cute!! IIRC there was a hedgehog character in one of the old Mario games. He looked a lot like that one pre-release picture of Sonic with the longer, wilder spikes.

Some sprites I did of Sonic characters, but if they were in the Mario universe. There's Sonic and Shadow (in Small, Big and Super forms), Amy, and Tails.
Fun fact, Sonic and co., here at least, are the same species as some enemies from the Mario games - Sonic, Shadow and Amy are Porcupos, while Tails is a Waddlewing.
SMB1 Small, Big and Fire Mario sprites are not mine and were only included for the sake of comparison. The sprites and Mario himself are owned by Nintendo.
Sonic, Shadow, Amy and Tails are owned by Sega.
SMB-style Sonic character sprites were done by me.

If you mean the Porcupo enemies from SMB2 in the west, I actually based Sonic, Shadow and Amy on them!
