I had a sudden craving to draw myself a deer girl, and so I did.

Granted, I already had one beforehand, but I was over using the Japanese aesthetic a little too hard.

So I took a different route with Ashe Brandt, as she just has a more "modern/soft fantasy" look?

It's hard to describe, but I liked the results I came up with.

Grey is always a more tricky color to blend with, but the results I'm definitely pleased with.

Using white to smooth out the messier grey bit certainly was useful, and truly gave her fur a more ashen look.

Overall, I'm pleased with this design and character, I especially love her legs.

Bio:

On the luscious green continent of Lugotorix is the grand forest of Avarlon.

In the center of Avarlon is the Grand Tahra Tree.

A tree that had been giving life to the Avarlon Forest for hundreds of thousands of years.

Those who protect Avarlon are the Forest Knights, and one of them was a doe named Kaylan.

While being the tallest of the Forest Knights, Kaylan had no interests in sticking around in a forest for the rest of her life.

She was one of the few deerfolk that traveled outside the Avarlon Forest to discover other towns and cities.

Also, Kaylan was one of the few Forest Knights that knew the Grand Tahra Tree was dying.

She was forbidden to mention this to any of the forest dwellers, and if Kaylan did, she’d be thrown out of the forest.

The Forest Knights were frantically figuring out where everyone would go when the Grand Tahra Tree finally died.

It was on a patrol on the outskirts of the forest, did Kaylan find a possible answer to their problems.

She found a red flaming orb called “The Red Flower” a source of eternal fire that could help the deerfolk with wherever they’d relocate to.

However, the orb itself was stuck behind some type of sealing mechanism.

So, Kaylan would take this Red Flower to the center of Avarlon without anyone noticing and tried to fiddle the seal open.

She managed to do it, but immediately the Red Flower exploded in her hands and the fire spread to the Grand Tahra Tree and the surrounding area.

Within seconds, the fire spread across the forest until it was a raging inferno.

Kaylan panicked, and did her best to get the young fawns out of Avarlon using the underground exits.

She would only last for an hour before smoke inhalation would ruin her body.

While looking for more fawns, a giant tree would fall and crush Kaylan.

The flames would consume her body as Avarlon Forest was reduced to ash and soot.

Despite Kaylan’s grievous injuries, she wasn’t dead, but in incredible agony.

It was then when a demonic fire spirit found her.

His name was Igneous, and he was once a protector of Avarlon Forest many eons ago.

But he was sealed inside The Red Flower because his powers were feared by the deerfolk at the time.

As revenge, he promised to destroy the forest when the Grand Tahra Tree would show signs of death.

He offered Kaylan his power, as Igneous was the only one that could “resurrect” her body.

But it’d come at a cost.

Kaylan would have to absorb the ashes of the ruined forest into her failing body, as well as the now wandering souls of the forest dwellers, to reconstitute her body.

With a weary burnt hand, Kaylan took the offer as she didn’t want to die.

As the ash and soot circled around Kaylan’s body, the thousands of souls would follow with Igneous, growing in power.

As promised, Kaylan was reborn, but with blacken hair and ashen fur.

The forest was gone, truly now nothing left but blacken dirt and scorched stones.

Kaylan’s mind was heavy with guilt, as she didn’t know now what to do with this 2nd chance at life, now as a Vessel holder.

Igneous reminded her of her newfound freedom, and that now she could do whatever she wanted.

Kaylan would leave, renaming herself to Ashe Brandt, becoming a monster slayer for hire.

This was the best way Ashe found to atone for what she had done, as well as learning more about the world around her.

She’d join a guild called “The Red Rogues” where Ashe would become fast friends with the guild master, Daryl Graves.

He’d help get Ashe get back on her feet, and gave her a place to live.

As the years would pass while working with The Red Rogues, Ashe would become known as “The Ashen Doe” around the world, being a very reliable monster slayer in the process.

Eventually, Ashe would go independent and open her own “monster slayer business” with herself as the sole member.

She currently lives in Redrift City, and had been there for 20 years.

Personality:

When she was younger and still known as Kaylan, Ashe was incredibly flippant, casually mouthing off to even the most powerful of monsters or demons, and she generally enjoys showing off and taunting her adversaries as often as she can.

This would often get her into trouble with the other Forest Knights, despite her impressive results.

She displayed a fearless, almost disinterested attitude towards incredibly dangerous situations as a Forest Knight, and this carried over when she became a Vessel with Igneous.

While maturing as time goes by, Ashe never loses her care-free, devil-may-care attitude.

She can be serious when the situation calls for it, but still maintains an overall laid-back demeanor during tense situations, and is never without a witty taunt or comeback.

Although seemingly shown at times to be uncaring or callous, Ashe maintains a very strong sense of justice, and prefers to fight fair.

She can be counted on to do the right thing, even if she makes humorously cynical quips about it the entire time.

Ashe seems quite willing to perform missions solely for the good of them, and rarely, if ever, enforces payment from poor clients.

In fact, Ashe will typically “refuse” any job she dislikes, regardless of how much it pays, but will immediately take on any demonic cases, especially those involving monster hunting, with or without pay. Many of her clients take advantage of her hospitable nature, and leave bills for property damage caused during the mission instead of paying for Ashe’s services.

While Ashe is generally easygoing, she feels an immense guilt for the tragedy of Avarlon Forest.

As a form of atonement for the death of The Grand Tarha Tree, Ashe regularly sends her money to organizations to reforest trees all around the world.

Powers:

With a fire-based spirit inside of Ashe’s body, she can produce her own flames.

She tends to fire them out is small, controlled bursts, usually to scare off weaker opponents or monsters.

Ashe can also absorb other opened flames to heal herself, or direct them to her foes.

Igneous’ flames aren’t particularly “special” but Ashe is able to control other aspects related to flames.

Ashe can create an ash cloud to blind foes and have them choke.

If the ash cloud is hot enough, it can act similarly to volcanic ash clouds, melty flesh and anything in her way.

When Ashe is fighting something particularly powerful, she can unleash her True Demonic Form.

This is something she rarely uses, but when Ashe is in full true sync with Igneous, that grand boost of power is enough to take care of the problem she is facing with ease.

Fighting Style:

Ashe’s training with the Forest Knights of Avarlon did give her some basic combat training.

It was enough at the time, but not as good as she wanted.

But, it wasn’t until she joined the Red Rogues did she truly learn some better techniques better suited for her new powers.

Ashe’s long legs made her a natural fit for kickboxing.

The reach she has thanks to her tall frame is extraordinary.

With those powerful legs, Ashe’s kicks are deadly, as one kick is enough to seriously damage her opponents.

When in motion, Ashe will use the momentum of her kicks to make the next kick more powerful.

Plus, with infusing each kick with a little bit of flames, it becomes very difficult to avoid without getting torched or stabbed by her hooves.

Ashe can use some quick bursts of flames underneath her hooves to get some easy speed to close gaps quickly.

This keeps her light on her feet, being able to avoid most danger the moment she sees it.
