Day time in the woods

Share

I had to make two background pieces to illustrate the world a creature I designed in character design class revolved in. This is the first of the two backgrounds, a day time scene in the wood. It felt very animation-feature to me, I think my inspiration (bambi + sleeping beauty concept arts from disney + Miyazaki's Mononoke hime) really shows through. :)

Hmm

At first I saw the scene and thought oh awesome a nice forest how cool and relaxing but then... It's like, it started to feel eerie.

The colouring is ever so slightly sinister that I get creeped out and the proximity to the viewer of one or two trees and some flora really enhances that feeling of something's not quite right.

I don't know what it is, but I can't see a nice happy forest that I'd want to run around it... Is that a pond there? Right close to the viewer... It feels as though this forest has hidden dangers (which ones don't, duh).

Love this piece, if somewhat unsettling.

Warm

The softness of colours and the brightness slipping up from the back that's just awesome

Brilliant

Don't have any other words to describe it

reminds me of samurai jack

nice color blends all around :D

Great!

Did this ever get in a game? It'd work well in some sort of martial arts game. Good Job!

Thanks! And no, it was just a one shot piece for a class. Though I'd like to do a sidescrolling game with that kind of background one of these days.
