[D&D] TOL: The Silent City

Share

TOL is a sprawling city if ever there was one - almost a million souls call its streets their home... But not one of them dares skulk about in the Silent City after dark. By day, its throngs of nobles and merchants converse peaceably, debate the realm's politics within coffee houses, and attend splendid Operas featuring the greatest performers in all the world. Come nightfall, however, it is said the late Emperor's shade stalks the streets for those who would disobey the orders of his wife, now the Queen-Regent.

Queen Catherinne ordered the entire Royal Quarter on full lockdown following the assassination of her husband. With the help of the Emperor's vizier, a firey-eyed sorcerer who calls himself Palakeos the Pure, the Queen divined that her husband's assassin was still within the Silent City, in hiding. It had been nearly two years from that fateful night, but in all that time the killer has not fled, and so the Queen decrees that none are to travel anywhere within after dark. Confessors and Inquisitors smash down doors each evening, dragging away those they deem suspicious for questioning. Seldom do any return.

And so did the Royal Quarter fade from the city's memory, replaced by the paranoia-fueled and merciless Silent City.

My first time drawing an actual attempt at architecture and a scene location. Doubly so since it features no subjects.
