Ingenue

Share

A mixed media piece that I've been doing for the past 2 weeks, inspired by Radioheads album cover artist Stanley Donwood. I love how he's able to take the albums they put out and create such unique and vivid covers that suit the music. I thought I'd do the same, but with Thom Yorkes piece "Ingenue" (from what I could find there wasnt any previously existing artwork for this song). I drew up what came to mind, and then spent the next week or so doing various abstract artworks to work as the background composites. I particularly wanted a rough and detailed yet swirling aesthetic to these parts. Then with all the final artworks I scanned them into photoshop and edited the heck out of it.
I think it was worth the effort :)
The video is still a work in progress but I'll link it below when I finish editing everything.

Fineliner, copic marker, watercolour, acryllic paint and aerosol paint on paper, canvas and watercolour paper, composited in photoshop.

I mean it's clearly ironic but if you're putting this under fine art you should expect the score you get lol.

Oooo, I like this.
I’m always suprised at what, seemingly simple, techiques can be used to make amazing art. This feels very surreal but in a way familiar, this is great!

Shye responds:

Thanks! Surreal but familiar is a nice way to put it, I was aiming for something along those lines :)

You consistently surprise me. I never know what you'll be doing next, and I love that. This piece in particular really, so many different parts to it. The Radiohead cover art influence shows as well, I'm not too familiar with the music but my dad loves em, has all their albums (he always jokes about how I was born when Amnesiac was released and all his friends got to hear the album before him lol).

Shye responds:

Thank you! I try my best not to make art thats too similar or bland, so its good to see that pay off. I'd recommend the band if your dad hasnt forced it onto you already lol, they're really unique and captivating.
