Have you ever had the sudden feeling of being called to action by something within yourself? That feeling of intense inspiration that sends chills through your body, radiates from the middle of your back and shoots out through your fingers? That's the feeling of Potential, and those chills you get are from your creative energy, readying itself to flow from your hands and into your inspired life. Uninhibited flow of this energy results in a glow that starts behind the eyes. Suddenly, you see many of the options open to you; even dead end ideas can lead to a nessisary perspective shift, views from various angles, allowing you to rotate the idea in your head before it finally clicks, and the end result is in sight. Once the task is complete, you celebrate, not the success of the venture, but the follow through of a creative endeavor. This is what ignites the soul. On the flipside, however, what happens when this energy has nowhere to go? When life has no creative outlet? Like a dam holding back too much water, it builds up, threatening to break through with destructive consequences. It begins to claw at the mind, causing questions and unease to build until your main focus is on poisonous fears and obsessions. It can tear you to shreds.
So, what are you curious about? What expressive adventure have you been putting on hold? Even though I was inspired by the idea of making a flip doll, I stalled on beginning the creation process. So, this doll is a physical representation of my initial intimidation of a project prompted or requested by another person, as well as what I have observed in others around me struggling with their creativity. In this piece, I decided to explore materials I normally don't use in my dolls, namely the stick I used as the base and the two beach rocks that made the faces, combined with the textile and wire elements I am used to.
Creativity is alive in us all, let it live.
