This was a fond and somewhat traumatic memory from my early childhood. During that time, my cousin (who’s a few years older than me) got a new puppy. I was ecstatic about it and wanted to go visit immediately so after school I rushed to her house. Soon I arrived and I ran through their back gate in to their house (that how I normally go in). As soon as I walked in, I saw the puppy playing with my cousin and of course, I joined in. Shortly after it was dinnertime and we all ate dinner together (no one was with the puppy, bad idea!).
After dinner we intended to play with the puppy but he was nowhere to be found. After few moments of panic we found out he escaped through the back gate, I left open. Everyone decided go and search for the puppy despite the heavy rain outside. I felt super guilty! Us, kid were told to stay at home whilst the adults went out. However my cousin rebelled and went out anyway, since it was mostly my fault, I tagged along too. After few hours of searching, I got a call from my cousin saying she might have seen the puppy so I rushed to her. The scene I saw was the illustration above. I saw my cousin reaching her hand out toward the scared puppy.
The multi- colour background was inspired by the traffic light at the crossing behind them and the ray of colours resent the different emotions I felt (warm colours – happy I found the puppy, cool colour – feeling guilty that everyone was running around in the rain).
Later we took the puppy home and we got a good long scolding from our parents but everything good after that and I learned to not leave the gate open ever again! The puppy was named Snoopy, my cousin like the sound of it.
Thank you for reading my long story! Hope you like my illustration! :)
