The Forest is Burning

Author Comments

Listening to L'Enfant Sauvage by Gojira, it's such an inspirational record. This is totally what I saw in my mind when I just re-listened to it again - some guy watching his forest burn. Weird, but yeah. Did this in less than an hour. I'm going to try working on making my rough sketches more detailed without detracting from those details or altering them so much like I normally do when I continue working on a piece. I feel like a lot of my personality goes into those rough details.. and they get lost in refining an image.

Anyway, this is all from imagination, no references or nothing. :>

You just have to learn when to use sharper brushes and when to soften them while you're speedpainting. Maybe you should start playing around with more custom brushes. Let the brush texture create detail while you focus on the overall composition.

Much thanks. :>

Astonishing.

Rhunyc responds:

Glad you think so. :)

This is superb! The pale moonlight and the raging flames create a good combination when it comes to contrast. I know for a fact that foreshortening in any form isn't easy, but I'd say you pulled it off nicely! Just a quick question out of curiosity: is it a katana he has across his back? It looks like that to me.

Rhunyc responds:

Thank you! It could be! I wasn't too concerned what type of sword it was, I just wanted it to be a fantasy setting, so I thought a sword would help show that. :>
