Goretober #27: The weeping statue

Share

The statue was still there, as it had been for a great many years, going to sit on the rock it sat upon; she inspected it closer.

It's fading paint and moss ridden form unharmed except where it looked like several large beasts had once bitten it.

'Who would ever bite into a rock?' she thought to herself as she sat down and opened the lunch she had brought.

"I thought you'd be lonely, so I came back today" she said, eating her Pb and J.

A raven cawed somewhere overhead, and she thought about how she had stumbled across the statue a few days ago.

something had drawn her to it, and she had heard from the elders many stories and myths, no-one knew where it had come from, -some said it was the last piece of art a dying man had made- nobody knew why it had weird bitemarks out of it, yet refused to crack or crumble.

And some definitely found it caused unease, many said it felt like the statue was watching them, like it had bad intent behind it's blind, painted and faded eyes.

"I don't feel uneasy." she remarked to the statue, not expecting an answer, she sat there. "I don't have many friends either.. so I'm glad I can hang out here... it's so pretty, and calm." she added.

Looking at the statue again she realized it looked sad, and frowned herself. "It must be so lonely, so many people think you're dangerous, but you're a statue, how could you ever hurt anyone?" she said, frowning harder realizing that the statue looked sadder and sadder the longer she looked. "I mean, if anything, somethings hurting you.." looking at the bite marks on the statue, it must have been a large something at that.

She studied her sandwich for a long moment, thinking about how terrifying it must be to be this poor statue.

It wasn't until she heard the shifting of stone on stone she looked up, shocked she realized the mouth of the statue was open and hung above her head, ready to bite, even if she tried to move she couldn't remove her head.

She felt fear and adrenaline as she realized that she had been very, VERY wrong about the statue.

Even in her fear however, she noted it looked sad, and watched what seemed to be tears drop from the statue's eyes.

She breathed and closed her eyes, she knew she couldn't escape.

The last thing she heard was the grinding of stones before it all went dark.

He looked at the statue, it seemed moist with dew, moss flowed from its gaping mouth like a waterfall, it looked majestic, some sort of human sized canine with pale blind blue eyes, looking in it's face it seemed sad, it looked like dew had pooled, giving it the illusion of crying.

What a story! with that however I will not ruin this with words.

Hint: daggers
