Personality: practical, good-natured, sarcastic, independent, prone to selfishness.

Strengths: intuitive, knowledgeable about self-defense and emergency situations, physical strength and agility, trilingual (Hindi, Japanese, Italian).

Weaknesses: insecure about their body, gender, sex, and sexuality, envious of people with easier lives.

Family: Jodh Joestar (adoptive father), Ruhi Upasani (mother), J. Geil (biological father)

Family History: Jodh was the nephew of Lisa Lisa who was transported to Ishla, India during the events of Battle Tendency in order to keep him safe. As he grew up and learned about the Joestars, he sought to have a normal life. He married Ruhi and adopted her child, Jyoti. Ruhi soon died after coming across J. Geil again.

  • Stardust Crusaders:
  • Birth: Jyoti was born to Ruhi after an assault by J. Geil.
  • Age 3: Jodh became Jyoti's adoptive father after meeting and getting into a relationship with Ruhi.
  • Age 4: Jyoti met and befriended Kumari.
  • Age 5: J. Geil killed Ruhi. In response, Jodh decided to train Jyoti in combat and attempt to teach them Hamon so that they could defend themself against such dangers. However, their relationship strained when Jodh’s overly protective behavior and disapproval of Kumari’s friendship angered Jyoti.
  • Age 10: Jyoti began hanging out with the delinquent kids of Ishla, doing drugs and committing small, petty crimes.
  • Age 16: All of the delinquents except Kumari were killed in the Golden Arrow Massacre. In response, Jodh blamed himself for “inheriting the Joestar curse and bringing damage to [Jyoti’s] life” and removed himself from their life, leaving Jyoti the funds and transportation to Japan in hopes of a safer life.
  • Age 17: Jyoti moved with their childhood friend, Kumari.
  • Diamond is Unbreakable: Jyoti changed their name from "Jyoti Joestar" to "Noshi Inoue" to avoid connections with the Joestar family as ruled by Jodh. [TBD]
  • Vento Aureo: Jyoti is sent to Italy in order to find the boss of Passione. They succeed and help turn Passione into a faction of SPWF.
  • Stone Ocean: Jyoti sends Bruno's team to Florida to defeat Pucci.

Extra Trivia:

  • Jyoti started off as a joke premise: "Imagine a shonen protagonist who's fully aware of their role in the story and wants no part in it."
  • Jyoti shares elements with nearly every Joestar: Jonathan (doesn't have a Stand), Joseph (metaphorically runs from their problems), Jotaro (briefly went to jail), Jolyne (used to hang out with delinquents), Gappy (identity issues).
  • Jyoti borrows some influence from Avatar: the Last Airbender: Chi blocking and Toph Beifong's ability to sense vibrations through the ground (hence why Jyoti often wears sandals).
  • Jyoti's appearance is based on Padparacsha from Houseki no Kuni, who is also voiced by Romi Park.

TV Tropes

A Cup Angst: Played with. Being intersex, Jyoti is insecure about their breasts, altogether, not feeling like they're too small or too big necessarily.

Badass Family:

Before I Change My Mind: If anyone is lucky enough to get Jyoti to agree to something involving Stands, they should expect to hear this.

Bifauxnen: Though this trope is usually applied to female characters, Jyoti does carry the appearance of the average bifauxnen.

Catchphrase: "No, no, no!"

Chick Magnet: Again, like all of the other Joestars. Though this falls more in line with the trope "Everyone Wants the Hermaphrodite" because of their gender and because they attract members of both sexes. Though, because of their bifauxnen appearance, they attract much more females than males.

Code of Honor: "I don't want to be a Jojo, but that doesn't mean I'd just let a random bystander die!"

Contralto of Danger: Like the other Joestars, Jyoti falls into the "Badass Baritone" trope, but their voice falls in line with that of a contralto female voice.

Embarrassing Nickname: "Nono" as coined by Josuke because he couldn't remember their name (only to be cemented by Okuyasu).

Gayngst: Even though Jyoti is way more preoccupied with bigger problems, part of their insecurity and identity issues stem from being intersex and not getting any say in what gender they are.

Genre-Savvy: Jyoti is practically aware that they're a shonen protagonist and they're not having it.

Gut Feeling: How they usually avoid trouble.

Happily Adopted: Until Stardust Crusaders, though...

I Don't Think That's Such a Good Idea: Almost anything proposed by Josuke and co. (particularly Josuke's get-rich-quick schemes)

Messy Hair:

Only Sane One/Team Mom: Between telling everyone to either stop panicking/raging, quit stalling, move out of the way, or just think, Jyoti really takes this role.

Reluctant Hero: If you were raised to put survival over everything else, you'd be reluctant to be a hero, too.

Ship Tease: Between them and Kumari.

Tall, Dark, and Handsome: Again, just like every Joestar, Jyoti is strikingly tall for their age (and dark-skinned, dark-haired, and attractive).
