Nintendo DS artwork

For a drawing on the Nintendo DS this was actually good, great job.

Really enjoy how you added in details for it. However it's on such a small screen which keeps you from being able to create a full face.

Also noted is Nintendo DS pictochat is somewhat horrid with the fact it lacks the ability for one to add colors to it, oh well.

On a DS? Not bad.

However, what I will pull you up on here is that this piece shows too little in the detail stakes in order to seriously be considered as an award winning piece here.

From what you've been able to show us so far, I think that you've got a lot of potential to draw, but it seriously is a case of you needing to get some better hardware in order to produce. I think that you've got the potential to give us some decent fan art, but it's going to require a tablet at the least. From there, spend some time and get the images to look right - you can do this with a mouse, so it's just a case of them taking a lot of time to master - zoom in more and use a slightly smaller tool. When you zoom out, it will look so much better and more detailed.

Good use of the "pictochat" however...

Hello,

I feel the piece is still lacking, I know it's awesome considering the medium,
unfortunately if rated based on the aesthetics of the picture it feels weak to me.

I do appreciate the time you took to edit the picture of the pictochat screen, to make it more presentable, so a bonus point for the effort that when into that.

By the way what does the title mean?
Thanks,
- Celx

There is some that I like about this and then there is some that I don't like about this. I'll start with the negatives so we can end on a more positive note. First, I don't really like how it's presented. I understand that it wasn't done on a computer, but if you are going to take a picture of it then you should present it better.

I think I would have sat it on some sort of surface so the device would have been straight. The presentation of a crooked picture with a lot of black space around it really doesn't look that good in my opinion. I would have also zoomed in to the point where all you would see in the picture would simply be the pictures that you drew instead of the empty space around it.

Even if you didn't want to do that you could have perhaps cropped the picture out and turned it a bit so it did give the illusion of being straight and more professional looking.

Another thing that I didn't like was how small the drawing area is. I feel that if this was done with some other sort of program then you could have shown more of the face. It's really hard to review it that way though since you used the space you had. I also wouldn't have minded some color being added to this, but the black isn't really that bad.

The top picture is my favorite overall because I felt like the eyes were done rather well and everything around it was decent. I felt that you could have done a much better job on the eyes on the lower picture, but that you did a much better job on the hair.

For what you had I was impressed with the amount of detail, but yet again on another program perhaps you could have added even more. The background does cut it for what you have in this situation and the angle that you have the white space in the background does really bring it apart from the main attraction of the face.

The top picture gives me a feeling that the person is surprised or wasn't expecting something to happen, which in return made his eyes more round. The bottom picture almost makes me think that the character is sad, but not exactly sad. Perhaps more of a worried than anything else, but also with a sign of confusion as well.

Overall, you did a good job working with what you were given, but simply cropping out the extra black space and straightening the picture up would have gave it a much better presentation in my opinion.

Nice

Heh, I had to look up what "pictochat" is. Now that I know I think I like the picture a lot better. ^^
I don't know how hard it is to draw in pictochat, but the picture looks nice anyway. A little scetchy maybe and it would have been nice to have a pic where we can see more than just the eyes, but when comparing this drawing to original artwork of Rukia I can see the similarities, which means you've done a good job.

Now, if only there was a way to get pictures from the DS onto the PC in decent quality I could rate this pic even higher. ^^

So my advice is that you should use programs that allow you to use more colours and that allow you to get the pictures onto your PC in high quality. ^^

PowerRangerYELLOW responds:

Thanks for taking the time to review my drawing and i like all your ideas such as getting programs to get pictochat images on to the computer.

I mostly take pictures or video of my drawings of pictochat drawings using a sony handycam.

I'll look into how to add programs to a nintendo ds as soon as possiable.
