Sylaia the Lady of the Woods

Romantic relationships between mortals and the gods are rare but certainly not unheard of, there are many stories both false and true, happy and tragic, about the children of those spawned from the union between a deity and a mortal. These are now the stuff of legends though, for indeed though gods and mortals walked with one another at one point now the gods can no longer walk upon the material realm... Except for their birthdays, for the occasion the King of the Gods, the Sovereign, allows a deity to directly interact with he mortal realm (as long as they don't destroy anything of course) for one month.

It was the birthday of Demiosa, the goddess of nature, and she had always preferred the company of plants to other thinking creatures, but one elf by the name of Vannus struck up a friendship with the goddess. On Demiosa's next birthday they reuinited, and they saw one another again and again... After about 7 years this close friendship eventually blossomed into a true romance. Demiosa and Vannus were happy together, but both also knew that it would end in tragedy for Demiosa was doomed to outlive her husband, for even the nearly immortal elves cannot come close to the truly immortal gods. Nevertheless, the two were happy to live what time they would have together in joyful matrimony. They held a marriage with only Vannus' parents and Demiosa's brother Erasinell, the god of animals, attending with Demiosa's only other friend the goddess of love Darsay would be the minister. After that things were uneventful, but most assuredly happy. For over 200 years the goddess and the elf were deeply in love and despite seeing one another for only one month stayed close until the end of Vannus' days, for indeed the elf would pass on of old age. Demiosa was grief-stricken, but was able to move on and would never forget the times they had together.

This is not however the end of their tale, for Demiosa felt something inside her... She could see another soul growing within her. She realized that with their final.... Fling, Varrus has impregnanted Demiosa. She was overjoyed, but also terrified; this was a child that would be a demigod, a child she could only be with for once a year since even half-mortals could not be in the realm of the gods without being harmed by the powerful magic in it. Demiosa debated extinguishing the life in her, but in the end decided against it. She would give birth and find proper parents for the child. The elf girl whom Demiosa named Sylaia would be raised well by the parents Demiosa found for her. It would also not take long for Sylaia to know she was the daughter of a goddess, she could not only talk to plants but control them at will and even make them grow just by touching them. Much like her mother she is cold and aloof, but in the end she has a kind heart inherited from both of her parents and has made a job for herself defending forests and all those who live in them.
