The original photo of the model really stuck out to me when I first saw it. Very dark and gloomy. It has a heavy feeling of mourning to me. I knew I wanted to make something using it as reference.
My good friend Román is an amazing photographer and I have been wanting to find a way to merge my drawing with his landscape photos for a long time.
When I finished the line work of the subject and began playing with different ways to fill in the colors I didn't feel like it was right. So a dropped in Románs recent photo which had chromatic aberration (which I am addicted to using) and was a little stunned at how good it looked. A little tweaking and coloring and I ended with this.
Not so gloomy, it still not entirely cheerful.
The girl is fading away, back turned to a beautiful sunset on the water. Blindfolded and clasping hands in prayer the girl waits. For what I don’t know. For someone else to remove the blindfold and show her the beauty around her, before she disappears?
To blindly wait for the goodness in life to seek you out is to condemn yourself to be forgotten in time. Seek, pursue, and chase what is good.
