I tried something new with my digital art, using the Magic Lasso tool in photoshop to shade and color. I think it created an interesting, almost vector feel to this piece. It was fun to do, and a request from my sister.

Good job! I especially like the way it's holding its paws and the whole artstyle you were able to create from digital art? Pretty cool I would say!

Your outline is a bit off, it looks like hes a got a rectangle or something embedded in his skin on his back. But it looks like a pretty good representation of a rat. While I can see what you were trying to do with the shading and lasso tool, your light and shadows are off, especially around the neck area, where it is blatantly obvious that shading should not be there. Shading is tough, but youll get it right eventually, keep it up.

Octoraffe responds:

The photo reference I used for this particular piece of work showed the rat with the fatty "rectangle" back there. I draws em how I sees em. And yes, the light source is super inconsistent here, because I was enjoying practicing with the lasso tool and got carried away. There's actually a muscle there in the rat's neck, but with the sudden change in light angle it looks ridiculous. Shading isn't really that hard, though.

Thanks for the comment.
