I've found a new approach to coloring. What do you think? It allows me full control of values, while the colors mostly handle themselves. It's kind of clunky, but not as clunky as things I've tried before. It's pretty workable, and personally I think the balance of colors is worth it.

What you're seeing here, is an arrangement of layers that is mostly non-destructive. A coloration of B&W values. I've also figured out a way to blend colors perfectly, so I can add any reflections necessary to make a figure appear like it's next to another object. But perhaps instead of working non-destructively, I could instead just arrange the layers to generate a palette, and then grab colors off the palette and paint directly. That might make workflow slightly faster, and make the whole scene feel more cohesive. But then again, I'm not that good of a painter anyway, so it might actually be slower for me to do that. I can handle values fairly well, because it's almost mechanical for me. But the act of painting complex colors is still a difficulty.
