So, the new Transformers show(Netflix's War for Cybertron: Siege) is... certainly a thing that exists now. If you want my honest, exact opinions on it, it's got too many issues to be anything exceptional, but it's not nearly bad enough to be terrible. I don't love it, but I don't hate it, either.

But, there was something it did that totally caught me by surprise, and made me insanely happy.

That was the inclusion of Soundblaster.

Soundblaster, for those of you who have a life, is just Soundwave except he's black, gold and red. He first showed up in Japanese sequel series The Headmasters wherein Soundwave is fatally injured, but brought back to life in an even edgier form. In other words, he's an easy repaint so that they can just paint Soundwave's toys in Shadow the Hedgehog colors and sell it again. As followers of mine might know, I'm a man who desperately pretends that he only likes edgy things ironically, so of course I latched onto this obscure nobody that is barely a character and nobody cares about. This seemed to be the case for Soundblaster in all subsequent appearances; "just Soundwave but different colors."

Siege, for all its unimaginative retreading and poor execution, totally changed the game on Soundblaster.

For one, he has a completely new personality and identity. That being, he actually has one. He turns up as a godfather-esque figure, running his own crime syndicate on Cybertron. He's established to be a failed clone of Soundwave, made by Decepticon scientist Shockwave. He's calm and collected, but also quite threatening. Amid the muddied disappointment that the rest of the show was, Soundblaster's inclusion and rebirth was a genuine bright spot for me. I hope that this one sticks.
