Okay, so two quick things that I think will improve the image. (1) Get a higher-resolution texture for the floor tiles, or maybe turn *off* the linear (or bilinear) interpolation. (2) Play with the specularity settings of each material. Skin and clothes should have low specularity, while steel and the countertop shoudl have high specularity. Also, play with specular color. That won't take much time and it'll add a lot to the animation.
Crap! I should have come back here a little sooner! I've already rendered and completed my movie for class! Well, I still could do some improving though, especially in the lighting as I am currently replacing all of my lights with Max's Mental Ray Lights which should be a massive improvement. I've did some other things like lover the shininess of the pipes since they should be in shadow anyway, and added some mess and grunge in places. The skin and clothes don't even have specularity though, so should I lower it from it's default neutral or something?
