A while back there was a redraw challenge where folks were redrawing this particular area in pokemon. Pokemon Yellow was my first game I ever owned that was mine. I could barely read, I didn't understand how to play, and I loved it. Since I had no idea how to raise new pokemon, I had to spend hours in the Viridian Forest until I managed to get Pikachu strong enough to beat Brock's pokemon! It was grueling...
But you know, playing through that forest the first time, it really felt huge and intimidating - like anything could happen or be lurking in there...

Insane. Had the same exact experience with yellow. My little brother and I were so confused but we just liked that we could turn around and see the little Pikachu icon whenever we talked to him.
Good stuff, really brought back the years with this one.
Getting to the forest in Blue, it was a mighty pain to get a Pikachu from there! Nothing but bugs otherwise!
In Pokemon Yellow, there are only caterpie and metapod in the forest! In fact, you can't catch weedle or kakuna at all in that game... What a shame, since I love beedrill!
Pokémon Yellow was also my first Pokémon game. It’s my favorite game in the series. And you got Pikachu to follow you around. How cool is that?
It was VERY cool. I'm shocked it took them until the gold/silver remakes to include it again!
